アメリカンボブテイルのルーツは、1960年代にアリゾナを旅行中の夫婦によって見つけられた短い尻尾と斑点縞模様のある猫だとされています。中型から大型の筋肉質でがっしりとした体格をしていて、その特徴的な短い尻尾は、まっすぐな尾、結んだ尾、巻いた尾があります。耳の先にはリンクス・ティップ（オオヤマネコの先っぽ）と呼ばれる飾り毛があり、力強く野性味溢れる顔つきも印象的です。ひとり遊び好きでおとなしい性格ですが、人と一緒に何かをするのを喜ぶような社交性も持ち合わせています。

It is believed that the roots of the American Bobtail come from a short tailed cat with spots and stripes found by a married couple traveling through Arizona in the 1960s. They have a medium to large-sized muscular body and their distinctive short tail can be straight, tied, or curly. In front of their ears is a decorative fur called “Lynx tips,” which help provide for a very strong, wild looking face. They generally like to play alone quietly, but they also will happily do something along with people, giving them an interesting personality.
