エジプシャンマウは、エジプト産の家猫をもとに品種改良された猫ちゃんです。野性的な斑点模様は猫の中で唯一自然発生したもの。古代エジプトの壁画や巻物にこの斑点がついた猫の絵が描かれているので、古代エジプトにルーツを持つのではないかとされています。このエジプシャンマウは、時速50キロ近いスピードで走ることができる家猫一番のスプリンター。でも性格はおとなしく人見知りで、ひとり遊びが大好きみたいです。とはいっても飼い主とは遊びたがるし、慣れた環境では活動的になるので、内弁慶的な猫ちゃんとも言えそうです。

The Egyptian Mau is an improved version of the breed of cats Egyptians kept as house cats. They are the only cat with a naturally occurring spot pattern in the wild. Because it looks very similar to the cats painted in ancient Egyptian murals and scrolls, it is believed that it has roots dating into ancient times. The Egyptian Mau has a top sprinting speed of near 50 km/h, making it the #1 house cat sprinter. However, its personality is quiet, shy, and they like to play by themselves. That being said, they like to play with their owners. and once they are used to an environment, they become very energetic. A classic example of a lion at home and a mouse abroad.
