猫は、「寝子」が語源であると言われているほど、とにかく一日中寝てばかりいます。なんと、1日の睡眠時間は15時間前後、<a href="/category/photo/THEME/9/">子猫</a>になると約20時間もあるのだとか。なぜ寝てばかりなのかというと、猫は野生時代に狩りをしていたので、動く必要のないときにはできる限り眠って、エネルギーをムダ使いしないようにしていたからなんです。しかし、熟睡するのは合計しても1日の内でたったの3時間だけで、それ以外は寝ているように見えても、物音がすればすぐに目を覚ます状態にあります。ちなみに、たまに寝ている猫がピクピクしたり、寝言を言っているのを見かけることがあるかもしれませんが、これは夢を見ているときなんだそうですよ。
